Lactate Test

The lactate test is especially for those, who do sports concerned with endurance. Runners, rowers, bikers as well as many others may benefit from a lactate test. The test will take place at a treadmill, bike or eg. an ergometer machine.

The purpose of such a test:

It will determine your aerobe and anaerobe limit (lactic acid limit) in order to optimize your training.

To get to know your heart rate zone. Many people train above the anaerobe limit, which leads to injuries and exhaustion.  It will also give you the possibility to find out, if you train with a pulse that is too low, so that you do not get enough out of the training. The lactate test is the ideal tool, if you wish to optimize your training as much as possible.

To be able to plan an ideal training course and estimate if the training is working for you. To plan a method.  The lactate test can be used to plan an ideal speed while running as well as the heart rate in connection with different distances. E.g. 10 km, ½ marathon or a full marathon. To gain a greater consciousness of your strong sides, where it is possible to develop your skills. It is possible to analyze the test person´s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to both the aerobe and anaerobe capacities. Following, you will be advised about the intensity of your training, important focus areas, time for restitution and tactic.

Practical completion of the lactate test:

The running test will take place on a treadmill or on your own bike or home trainer. The test will be done in a way, where the burden will increase every fourth minute. This process is repeated until the person cannot run anymore or do not want to continue. Normally, a person runs 6 to 8 times of 4-5 minutes. During this, pulse and lactic acid will be measured through a blood test.  The blood test is taken through 1 to 2 drops of blood from the finger.  The test will be analyzed for lactic acid.

The result will be the basis of a personal evaluation of the present training condition as well as being the ground for your further training. It is estimated that the complete test will take ½-2 hours. One needs to consider the time spent for preparation, warming up, test, cooling down and a conversation about the results.
